On-air Staff

Meet the on-air staff of CFRY 920 AM / 93.1 FM.

Ryan Simpson

You can hear Ryan weekday mornings on CFRY as the host of the morning show. A longtime communtiy supporter, Ryan is coming up on 20 years at the station. He has done pretty much everything at one point and is the program director, a job he considers an honour when you look at the long history of the station. His family is very much involved in the sporting community and it is not unusual to find him, his wife or kids at the hockey rink, baseball field, golf course or school gymnasium. He has been the president of the Portage Plains Men's Slo-Pitch league for 9 years and it's not uncommon to find him emceeing an event or volunteering for a charity.

John Aune

John is the veteran on CFRY. He began his broadcasting career at CFRY in October 1960. Except for a 10 year stint in the mid 60's with a station in Regina, he's been a regular voice to CFRY listeners. You'll hear John weekends in the morning and filling in from time to time during the week. He's probably most recognized as host of the Sunday Request Show for over 20 years. Other than broadcast, his interests are family, cycling, watching curling, reading and giant jigsaw puzzles (saving an 8000 piece puzzle for retirement years).

Rae Hathaway

Rae Hathaway has been in the broadcast industry since 1972. He has worked as an announcer, producer, and news reporter. Rae arrived in Portage in 1996, and spent 9 ½ years as the morning news voice of CFRY. He has been News Director of CFRY/MIX 96.5 FM since 2002. Rae also teaches guitar, and founded the Glesby Rocks Youth Concert Series.

Diane Miller

Diane started at Goldenwest Radio in 2005 joining the morning show team on Mix 96.5. From there she was moved to CFRY where she can be heard in the afternoons. She has been in the business for 10 years, with 7 of that on television. She enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, and just hanging out with her family and friends.

Jeff Dyck

Jeff eats, sleeps and breathes sports, so it's a good thing he's our sports reporter. Most of his sports love is for the City if Toronto as he's a die-hard fan of the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays and Raptors. He lists seeing Hakeem Olajuwon play for the Raptors live as one of his personal sports highlights. He comes to us from Morden and looks forward to taking in a ton of Terrier games. When not talking about sports, he enjoys bowling, spouting random useless information and rocking out to Guitar Hero. Join Jeff weekday mornings for all your local news, sports and weather.

      Dayna Yurkiw

Born, raised, and for the most part matured in Portage, Dayna came to CFRY after graduating from PCI and participating in an overseas program in Honduras. When she isn't bringing you up to date on the latest news, Dayna makes the odd trip out for live action broadcasts. Her spare time consists of anything she can get her hands on, from kayaking and fishing, to a variety of team sports, and fitting in some volunteer activities.

Kevin Mills

Born in Winnipeg in 1985 to the son of a travelling evangelist, Kevin grew up on the road with his family, visiting churches across North America.

In 2000, Kevin and his father began a 30 minute radio ministry program on two U.S. stations and one Canadian station. As co-host/co-producer and announcer for Amazing Love Radio, Kevin's voice caught the ears of radio industry leaders.

In 2004 Kevin recorded his self-titled debut album with Avante Records. This album went on to be nominated for Southern Gospel Album of the Year by the CGMA in 2006.

Kevin currently lives in Portage la Prairie where he is an Ordained Minister and Associate Pastor of Prairie Community Church. He is also a former apiary owner and maintains involvement in many other business ventures.

           Kyle Schappert

Kyle grew up just outside of St. Anne's and took his broadcasting education in Winnipeg at A.B.C. This led him to his first radio job in Dauphin. Wanting to be a little closer to home, Kyle returned to the area and joined Golden West Portage.

In his spare time, he enjoys watching movies, skateboarding, sports, fishing and anything involving the great outdoors. Kyle is certified in Emergency Medical responding and is the producer for and can be heard on CFRY from 10-noon weekdays

Gabrielle Ogilvie

Gabrielle was born here, raised here, and is a graduate of PCI. She left shortly after to live the dream in Toronto, but came back after she realized the dream was always right here. Gabrielle is an avid country fan, loves Winnipeg, and will always have a place in her heart for the south-central favorite, the social. She is a proud Manitoban with a big heart. Gabrielle hopes to continue her broadcasting career, and thinks working here is a once in a lifetime opportunity, talking to the people she grew up with, admired, and loved. You can hear Gabrielle on the news, as well as on CFRY evenings.
